BEING A RESPONSIBLE DIGITAL CITIZEN

These days, digital technology is a major part of everyday life for all of us, and we use it for almost everything, from work to school and entertainment. Therefore, with everyone spending so much time connected to the Internet and using digital devices, it's important that we all understand how to be responsible digital citizens in the modern world. But what exactly does that mean?

A responsible digital citizen is someone who uses technology in a sensible way and encourages others to do the same. They are careful about their online behaviour and always try to be as polite as possible, which helps others to avoid having negative experiences online. Responsible digital citizens respect other people's privacy, too. They don't post pictures of others or discuss people's personal lives without their permission because that could harm their online security. In this way, digital citizens help others to feel safer and more comfortable in the digital world.

Responsible digital citizens are also aware of the potential risks of being online. They understand that there are fake websites and online scams which try to access people's personal information to hack into their social media accounts or even bank accounts. When a digital citizen encounters one of these online scams, they should report it to the cyber police to stop this behaviour from happening. By doing this, digital citizens play an important role in making the Internet a safer place for all users.

While many of us know how to use digital technology safely these days, we should remember that there are many other people who are still at risk. By being responsible digital citizens, we can help everyone gain the benefits of the digital world without putting themselves or others at risk.

(Adapted from Bright 12- student’s book-p.52)

Read the following passage about digital citizens and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions from 23 to 30

Read the following passage about a great Olympic swimmer and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions from 31 to 40.

Hi readers. I want to tell you about a person that I really admire and had a chance to meet last month. It was Gary Hall Jr, a great Olympic swimmer.

Gary Hall Jr. was born and grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, [I] and he was an excellent swimmer from a young age, [II] and he competed at a very high level. However, [III] life didn't make things easy for him [IV] and he had to overcome major challenges to achieve his success.

By the age of 22, Gary had already competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, where he won four medals - two silvers and two golds - and set an Olympic record. Gary was so happy and excited about his career. Then, when he was 24 years old, his doctor told him that he had a health condition called type 1 diabetes, and that he might not be able to continue swimming. Gary was devastated, but after a short break, he decided he wouldn't give up and continued to train with all his strength. It was difficult and he often felt frustrated, but he made great progress.

A year later, at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia, Gary gave an amazing performance and won four more medals: two golds, a silver and a bronze. He continued his career and competed at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece, where he won another gold and a bronze medal.

According to Gary, people doubted his chances of success in 1996 because he was too young, and in 2000 because he had a health condition. In 2004, people doubted him because they thought he was too old. However, he proved that they were wrong.

Gary Hall Jr. is a special person in regard to all of the obstacles he overcame on his path to glory. I admire him because he didn't give up, even when he was exhausted struggling to train and compete. With his determination, he achieved great success. From his story, we can all learn an important life lesson: "To be successful, you must try your best and believe in what you can do”.
