Do đó, trớ trêu thay, có thể nói rằng mô hình tôm - lúa đang dẫn đến một số vấn đề môi trường khác, cuối cùng tăng thêm thách thức cho người nông dân. 

    Trong tương lai, nếu xâm nhập mặn trở nên trầm trọng hơn - do mực nước biển dâng cao và hoạt động gây sụt lún mặt đất của con người, độ mặn có thể sẽ vượt quá khả năng chịu đựng của loài tôm chăng? Chúng ta có thể cố gắng hết sức để thích ứng với hạn mặn, nhưng việc giải quyết tận gốc rễ của vấn đề mới giúp ta tránh được các biểu đồ và số liệu tồi tệ hơn.
