Read the following passage about powering and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to indicate the best answer to each of the following questions from 31 to 40.
As we continue to face the impacts of climate change, having a green environment has become increasingly important to the future of our society. To achieve this, the world is shifting towards green energy, and two particular types of energy at the centre of this movement are solar power and wind power.
[I] Solar power is all about harnessing the energy of the sun by using solar panels to convert sunlight into usable electricity. [II]. Moreover, solar panels are perfect for installation on a small scale, such as in private homes, since they require very little maintenance and have a long lifespan. [III] However, the ability to generate solar power depends on the time of day and weather conditions. This means that solar panels are often less useful if they are installed in places where sunny weather is not typical. [IV]
Wind power, on the other hand, involves converting the energy of the wind into electricity using large turbines. Wind power doesn’t produce any greenhouse gases, but it is not ideal for private use since turbines require consistent care. However, wind farms can be installed on a large scale and are able to produce electricity continuously regardless of the time of day. This means that if there were more investments in wind power, it could be a viable way to provide energy for major cities and even for whole regions.
Wind and solar power contribute significantly to a green environment by reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, helping us cut down on pollution and slow climate change. Additionally, using renewable energy sources helps promote spending on sustainable development by creating new career opportunities in the green energy sector.
For now, the biggest challenge of adopting green energy is the costs associated with installation and infrastructure, but the benefits unquestionably outweigh the downsides. If we want to stop the climate crisis and create a better and more sustainable future, green energy sources will undoubtedly be the key.

Read the following passage about The Elderly in Multicultural Societies: Challenges and Opportunities and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to indicate the best answer to each of the following questions from 23 to 30.
In multicultural societies, elderly individuals face unique challenges and important opportunities. As communities diversify rapidly, traditional support systems are constantly evolving. Seniors often navigate unfamiliar cultural environments while facing significant language barriers that lead to social isolation. These persistent obstacles frequently prevent full access to essential healthcare services or meaningful community participation. Fortunately, innovative local organizations address these critical issues by offering comprehensive translation services and culturally sensitive care options.
Technology presents both remarkable benefits and considerable difficulties for elderly individuals from various cultural backgrounds. Digital tools effectively connect seniors with distant family members globally, yet many older adults struggle substantially with these new communication methods. Recent research shows approximately 65% of elderly immigrants experience digital exclusion compared to native-born seniors. In response, numerous community centers have successfully established specialized technology workshops for older adults from diverse backgrounds, helping them maintain vital connections with overseas relatives and friends.
Cultural differences significantly impact elderly care approaches across communities. In collectivist cultures, elderly family members traditionally live with their children, while Western societies typically emphasize personal independence. This fundamental divergence creates tension when immigrant families attempt to adapt to new societal norms. However, vibrant multicultural environments provide valuable opportunities for exchanging diverse perspectives on aging. Many communities benefit tremendously from adopting hybrid approaches blending traditional cultural practices with modern care techniques, creating more comprehensive support systems.
Economic aspects of aging in multicultural contexts matter significantly for overall wellbeing. Elderly immigrants frequently face severe financial hardships due to limited retirement savings and persistent employment discrimination throughout their lives. Some progressive governments implement supportive policies addressing these vulnerable individuals' unique needs. Certain forward-thinking regions offer specialized employment programs for seniors with diverse cultural backgrounds, recognizing their valuable skills and extensive life experiences. Additionally, creative intergenerational initiatives connecting elderly immigrants with younger community members effectively foster mutual understanding and practical support, successfully transforming demographic challenges into meaningful community enrichment opportunities.
In which paragraph does the writer mention economic challenges and supportive initiatives for elderly immigrants?

Read the following passage about lifelong learning and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the best answer to each of the following questions from 31 to 40.
My father was an enthusiastic traveller, but as he got older, he increasingly suffered from what he called “travel fever,” a vivid term for the acute anxiety felt before a journey, essentially due to uncertainty about all the things that could go wrong. Sadly, this eventually stopped him from going on holiday. Then I, too, started to suffer similar apprehension, so I consulted a psychotherapist. She recommended a small piece of cognitive behavioural therapy, which involved acknowledging the mental and physical symptoms of anxiety, but telling myself that these were essentially indistinguishable from feelings of excitement about the prospect of a journey. This reframing of my feelings has been reasonably effective – it’s one way of dealing with uncertainty.
It’s not just the uncertainty of travel that we all have to face. None of us knows what is going to happen, or what is currently going on outside our immediate knowledge, or the vast majority of what has happened in the past. Uncertainty has been called the “conscious awareness of ignorance,” and there is a lot we are ignorant about. We must navigate through life without complete information, and this fundamental uncertainty is an inescapable aspect of human existence.
We all have to live with this uncertainty and, as a statistician, it’s been my job to try to analyse data and assess some of the risks we face. (I)But some deal with uncertainty with more equanimity than others. (II) Psychological studies, as well as our own experience, reveal a wide variation in people’s responses, including those that are cognitive (how we think), emotional (how we feel), and behavioural (what we do). (III)For example, when faced with uncertainty, do you deny it or acknowledge it, does it put the wind up you or make you courageous, do you try to avoid it or approach it?(IV)
Of course, your response may depend on the context, just as an individual’s appetite for risk-taking can vary across different areas of their lives. I have known people who seemed to take huge physical risks, yet were very cautious with money. Numerous scales have been developed to measure how well people can deal with uncertainty, based on responses to statements ranging from “Unforeseen events upset me greatly” to “When it’s time to act, uncertainty paralyses me.” Those who score highly, and find it difficult to tolerate uncertainty, may also be at increased risk of clinically significant anxiety and depression.

Read the passage carefully. Choose an option (A, B, C, or D) that best answers each question from to 646 to 650:
1. Millions of people are using cellphones today. In many places, it is actually considered unusual not to use one. In many countries, cellphones are very popular with young people. They find that the phones are more than a means of communication - having a mobile phone shows that they are cool and connected.
2. The explosion in mobile phone use around the world has made some health professionals worried. Some doctors are concerned that in the future many people may suffer health problems from the use of mobile phones. In England, there has been a serious debate about this issue. Mobile phone companies are worried about the negative publicity of such ideas. They say that there is no proof that mobile phones are bad for your health.
3. On the other hand, medical studies have shown changes in the brain cells of some people who use mobile phones. Signs of change in the tissues of the brain and head can be detected with modern scanning equipment. In one case, a traveling salesman had to retire at young age because of serious memory loss. He couldn't remember even simple tasks. He would often forget the name of his own son. This man used to talk on his mobile phone for about six hours a day, every day of his working week, for a couple of years. His family doctor blamed his mobile phone use, but his employer's doctor didn't agree.
4. What is it that makes mobile phones potentially harmful? The answer is radiation. High-tech machines can detect very small amounts of radiation from mobile phones. Mobile phone companies agree that there is some radiation, but they say the amount is too small to worry about.
5. As the discussion about their safety continues, it appears that it's best to use mobile phones less often. Use your regular phone if you want to talk for a long time. Use your mobile phone only when you really need it. Mobile phones can be very useful and convenient, especially in emergencies. In the future, mobile phones may have a warning label that says they are bad for your health. So for now, it's wise not to use your mobile phone too often.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions from 34 to 40.
Since the birth of the car in 1886, transport in big cities has changed a lot. And it is no wonder that many experts think that there will be extraordinary changes in the next few decades.
As technology develops, highways, skylines, subways will be all transformed. Smarter roadways and highways in cities outfitted with loT sensors will process all kinds of data in real time and alert users of the best transport options. Weather, crashes, traffic conditions will be communicated to users and smart stops will be found everywhere providing renewable energy, green hydrogen or even greener energy, ensuring efficiency and safety on every highway. Tunnels will also be a smart choice because of the reduction of traffic congestion. Underground roads will be built in 3D with a lift system which will take vehicles deep underground and will allow traffic to attain the greatest speed without intersections.
There will also be innovations in the sky. Air taxis are not a new idea, but in the future they will be completely environment-friendly. Aviation gasoline will be no longer used. Green energy will be in place and cost-effective air taxis will enable people to travel from one busy urban city to another in record time.
New technologies such as Al and the rollout of 5G will pave the way for fully autonomous innovation. Cars will not be the only thing to go autonomous. Freight trucks, cargo vehicles, air taxis will all benefit from this technology and that is why the term ‘driver’ will become extinct.
Transport will go green. Electric or hydrogen power will be mainstream. There will still be issues to solve such as safety, speed and cost, and of course governments will need to make new traffic laws.
