Read the following passage about Vietnamese cultural identity and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to indicate the best answer to each of the following questionsfrom 23 to 30.
Vietnamese cultural identity is a rich and intricate tapestry that reflects the nation's long and storied history. Rooted in over a thousand years of civilization, Vietnam's cultural identity is a fusion of indigenous traditions and external influences, shaped by its geographical location and historical interactions.
First and foremost, at the heart of Vietnamese culture is a deep reverence for family and community. Confucian values emphasizing respect for elders, filial piety, and social harmony have played a pivotal role in shaping Vietnamese society. These values are reflected in the close-knit family structures, hierarchical relationships, and communal rituals that are integral to daily life.
Secondly, Vietnamese cuisine is celebrated worldwide for its exquisite flavors and diversity. With its emphasis on fresh ingredients, fragrant herbs, and balanced flavors, Vietnamese food tells a story of the country's agricultural heritage and regional variations. Iconic dishes like pho, banh mi, and spring rolls have become global favorites, representing the culinary artistry deeply ingrained in Vietnamese culture. Also, Vietnam's artistic expressions are equally captivating. Traditional art forms like water puppetry, silk painting, and folk music continue to thrive alongside contemporary artistic movements. Ao dai, a graceful traditional dress, exemplifies the fusion of elegance and modesty in Vietnamese fashion, symbolizing cultural pride and identity.
Today, in the face of modernization and globalization, Vietnamese cultural identity remains resilient. While adapting to the challenges of the 21st century, the Vietnamese people continue to honor their traditions, celebrate their unique cultural expressions, and pass on their heritage to future generations, ensuring that their cultural identity remains vibrant and enduring.
In which paragraph does the writer state that Vietnamese cultural identity is influenced by both internal and external factors?

Read the following passage about the Science in Service of Humanity and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to indicate the best answer to each of the following questions from 31 to 40.
Science has come out of its shell in laboratories to become a powerful force for human advancement. Modern scientific endeavors increasingly focus on addressing real-world challenges affecting communities globally. From developing vaccines that save millions to creating technologies connecting people across continents, science serves humanity in countless ways. This shift represents a fundamental evolution in how we perceive scientific progress—not merely academic pursuit but a practical tool for improving lives and solving pressing problems.
[I] Medical breakthroughs exemplify how science directly benefits humanity. [II] For instance, gene therapy offers hope for those with inherited conditions, while artificial intelligence helps diagnose diseases earlier and more accurately. [III] These advancements didn't happen overnight; scientists had to burn the midnight oil for years before achieving success. [IV] Their perseverance demonstrates that when science targets humanitarian goals, results can transform society profoundly.
Environmental science has emerged as another crucial domain where laboratory work translates into human welfare. Climate scientists provide data informing policy decisions affecting billions. Conservation biologists develop strategies to protect biodiversity, ensuring future generations benefit from natural resources. Agricultural researchers create drought-resistant crops helping communities withstand changing climate conditions. Despite these contributions, environmental science faces challenges including funding limitations, political resistance, and urgency of addressing accelerating climate change. Nevertheless, dedicated scientists continue their work, recognizing environmental health directly impacts human wellbeing.
The future of science in service of humanity looks increasingly collaborative and inclusive. Modern approaches incorporate diverse perspectives, including indigenous knowledge and community participation. Citizen science projects engage non-professionals in data collection, democratizing the scientific process. Open-access publishing makes research findings available to anyone with internet access, not just wealthy institutions. These developments suggest science's greatest potential lies in becoming more accessible and responsive to human needs. As we face complex global challenges, from pandemics to climate change, science serving humanity offers our best hope for a sustainable future.

Read the following passage about managing change and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to indicate the best answer to each of the following questions from 31 to 40.
Growing up in Athens, Greece, Lydia Borsi remembers feeling tested when she tried to deal with mental health issues. Borsi says she had been seeing a therapist for anxiety. But she notes that people in Greece do not openly discuss mental health issues, which also get little attention in general healthcare services. “It was a lot more secretive. And people thought that I was a lot more unique,” Borsi said.
That all changed in 2017 when she moved to the United States to study at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. “When I came here, I really liked that people were not afraid to speak up about mental health and say that it’s important,” she said. The university was very supportive of her needs and offered plenty of information. She also became involved with a school group called Active Minds that helps students deal with mental health issues. [A]
Then due to the spread of the novel coronavirus, the University of Rochester had to move all its classes and some of its mental health resources online. Luckily, Borsi was able to connect with a mental health expert outside the school, in the local community. [B]
But as many of her American friends returned home, Borsi was stuck. Greece had succeeded in limiting the spread of the virus within its borders, but flights there from the U.S. are barred until July. Also, the health crisis has put her plans to seek admission to medical school in Britain on hold. [C] And she is not alone.
[D] In April, Active Minds launched a survey of over 2,000 students at U.S. colleges and universities. The study found that over 80 percent of those asked said the coronavirus crisis had negatively affected their mental health. One in five said it has affected them severely.
Laura Horne, chief program officer at Active Minds, says the findings are especially troubling given that the crisis is only going to make it harder for colleges and universities to help these students. “Colleges and universities had to pivot rather quickly to respond to COVID-19 and figure out all facets of university life, including mental health services. Now they have to figure out how to communicate with students,” Horne said.
Frank Chen is a Houston, Texas-based psychiatrist who has worked with college-age young adults. He points out that individuals at that age are in an important stage of their mental development. And college can be a difficult experience for students with or without mental health issues, as they balance work, studies, and personal relationships. Adding a major world event, like the spread of the coronavirus, makes it very difficult to predict what the long-term psychological effects might be. “I don’t think that there’s another event in the history of the people who are alive now that can really measure up to this,” said Chen.
The word ‘they’ in paragraph 6 refers to
Data privacy means ensuring that our personal information is kept safe and used responsibly by others. In today’s digital world, where information spreads easily, it’s more important than ever to protect our personal data. This highlights the importance of privacy laws.
Laws about data privacy vary globally. For example, in Europe, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) grants individuals rights such as accessing their data, asking for it to be deleted, and knowing how it’s used. Similarly, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) provides specific rights about personal information to people in California. Knowing these laws helps people understand their rights and what companies must do to keep their data safe. When using websites or apps, it’s essential to read their privacy policies. Emily Davis, a cybersecurity expert, stresses, “Reading and understanding privacy policies allows individuals to make informed decisions about sharing their personal information.”.
To boost your online safety, experts suggest using strong, unique passwords for each account and not reusing them. Enabling two-factor authentication when possible adds an extra layer of security. Equally important, be careful with emails, texts, or calls asking for personal information or money. Scammers often pretend to be real organizations. Always check before giving out personal details or clicking on links from unknown sources. Keep your devices updated with the latest software and security patches to protect against cyber threats. Using trusted antivirus software can also lower the risk of attacks. Privacy advocate Michelle Carter advises, “Being mindful of data sharing and regularly reviewing app permissions helps minimize unnecessary exposure of personal information.”.
Understanding your rights and taking steps to protect your personal information online are essential in today’s interconnected world. By learning about privacy laws, being careful about sharing information, and using strong security measures, you can control your digital presence and keep your privacy safe. Remember, protecting personal data is something we all need to do together to create a safer and more respectful online environment.
