Read the passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to indicate the best answer to each of the following questions from 6 to 13.
When several farmers merge plots into a single "project farm", they use digital tools to make that teamwork far more effective. GPS mapping, drones, and in-field sensors build a live, shared picture of soil types, weather shifts, and plant growth. Because everyone works on the same data, the team can settle seeding dates, determine when to spray, and track machinery in real time. What once depended on guesswork is now driven by verifiable information.
With GPS technology, farmers can accurately map out their fields and create customised planting plans. Seeding machines change their rate on the fly, drones spray pests on targeted zones, and smart spreaders apply fertiliser only where data shows a need. Because inputs go exactly where they help, fields yield more while chemical runoff falls. Trials report considerable savings on seed, fuel, and sprays - benefits the partners split at the season's end.
Water management is just as precise. Specialised equipment tracks moisture every hour, and forecast apps predict rain, wind, or heatwaves. Automated pumps deliver measured water amounts to thirsty zones and stop when a storm is coming, slashing waste and energy bills. The result is steadier yields in dry years, fewer nutrients washed away, and a smaller water footprint for the whole partnership. Smart irrigation also helps limit weed growth, reducing herbicide use.
The journey from field to market is equally digital. Cloud platforms record harvest weights, storage temperatures, and shipment times the moment they change, while blockchain records freeze each entry so customers can rely on it. Analytic tools browse the records to indicate weak points in the procedure, forecast prices, and suggest better planting plans for the next season to project partners. This makes project farming both profitable and sustainable.

Growing up in Athens, Greece, Lydia Borsi remembers feeling tested when she tried to deal with mental health issues. Borsi says she had been seeing a therapist for anxiety. But she notes that people in Greece do not openly discuss mental health issues, which also get little attention in general healthcare services. “It was a lot more secretive. And people thought that I was a lot more unique,” Borsi said.
That all changed in 2017 when she moved to the United States to study at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. “When I came here, I really liked that people were not afraid to speak up about mental health and say that it’s important,” she said. The university was very supportive of her needs and offered plenty of information. She also became involved with a school group called Active Minds that helps students deal with mental health issues. [A]
Then due to the spread of the novel coronavirus, the University of Rochester had to move all its classes and some of its mental health resources online. Luckily, Borsi was able to connect with a mental health expert outside the school, in the local community. [B]
But as many of her American friends returned home, Borsi was stuck. Greece had succeeded in limiting the spread of the virus within its borders, but flights there from the U.S. are barred until July. Also, the health crisis has put her plans to seek admission to medical school in Britain on hold. [C] And she is not alone.
[D] In April, Active Minds launched a survey of over 2,000 students at U.S. colleges and universities. The study found that over 80 percent of those asked said the coronavirus crisis had negatively affected their mental health. One in five said it has affected them severely.
Laura Horne, chief program officer at Active Minds, says the findings are especially troubling given that the crisis is only going to make it harder for colleges and universities to help these students. “Colleges and universities had to pivot rather quickly to respond to COVID-19 and figure out all facets of university life, including mental health services. Now they have to figure out how to communicate with students,” Horne said.
Frank Chen is a Houston, Texas-based psychiatrist who has worked with college-age young adults. He points out that individuals at that age are in an important stage of their mental development. And college can be a difficult experience for students with or without mental health issues, as they balance work, studies, and personal relationships. Adding a major world event, like the spread of the coronavirus, makes it very difficult to predict what the long-term psychological effects might be. “I don’t think that there’s another event in the history of the people who are alive now that can really measure up to this,” said Chen.

Read the following passage about urbanization and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the best answer to each of the following questions from 31 to 40.
[I] Urbanization refers to the increasing population shift from rural to urban areas, resulting in the growth of cities and metropolitan regions (Hall, 2014). [II] This phenomenon is driven by various factors, including economic opportunities, improved living standards, and social amenities available in urban centers. [III] As a result, urbanization significantly impacts both individuals and communities, leading to a range of benefits and challenges (Davis, 2016). [IV]
One of the primary advantages of urbanization is the economic growth it fosters. Cities often provide a plethora of job opportunities, attracting individuals seeking better employment and higher incomes. In urban areas, businesses flourish due to increased demand for goods and services, leading to enhanced economic productivity. Moreover, urbanization encourages innovation and technological advancements, as a dense concentration of people often fosters creativity and collaboration (Florida, 2017).
However, urbanization also presents significant challenges. Rapid population growth in cities can lead to overcrowding, straining public services such as transportation, healthcare, and education. Many urban areas struggle to provide adequate housing, resulting in the proliferation of informal settlements and slums. According to the United Nations (2018), nearly one billion people live in slums, lacking access to basic services. They also face adverse living conditions. This situation exacerbates social inequality and can lead to increased crime rates and health issues.
To address the challenges of urbanization, sustainable urban planning is essential. Governments and urban planners must prioritize creating inclusive, well-connected cities that provide access to essential services for all residents. Strategies such as developing affordable housing, enhancing public transport systems, and promoting green spaces can help improve the quality of life in urban areas while mitigating the negative impacts of urbanization (World Bank, 2019).

Peer pressure, (18) ________, can have both positive and negative effects. For instance, when surrounded by motivated peers, (19) ________. Positive peer pressure can be a great motivator, as peers who excel in academics or extracurricular activities can inspire others to follow suit. However, peer pressure can also lead to negative outcomes. The influence of friends who engage in risky behaviors, such as skipping school or using substances, can encourage others to make poor decisions. Studies have shown that teenagers are more likely to take risks in the presence of their peers because they feel more confident when surrounded by others.
While peer pressure is often associated with negative behavior, (20) ________. For example, students may be encouraged to excel in their studies or participate in volunteer activities due to the positive influence of their peers. However, it is important to develop strong decision-making skills and self-confidence (21) ________.
Parents and educators play a key role in helping young people navigate peer pressure. By teaching young people how to recognize both positive and negative peer pressure, and how to make independent, thoughtful decisions, parents and educators can help ensure that students thrive in a healthy, supportive environment. Encouraging open communication, providing advice on how to stay true to one's values, and helping students develop self-confidence are all crucial aspects of this process.
In conclusion, peer pressure is a powerful influence. (22) ________, teenagers can succeed and grow in a positive social environment.
