Taking Home the World Cup
Standing just 36 centimeters tall, the FIFA World Cup Trophy symbolizes the pinnacle of football achievement. Every four years, teams worldwide compete for it, but no one ever takes the trophy home. Made of 18-carat gold, the original trophy remains under FIFA's protection, with winners receiving only a replica. This measure safeguards it from theft, as the trophy has been stolen twice in its history.
The original trophy was made by a French sculptor, Abel LaFleur, and was called the “Jules Rimet Cup,” in honor of the founder of the World Cup tournament. Sometime during the first three World Cup events (1930, 1934, and 1938), the name changed to simply the “World Cup.” Then during World War II, not much was seen or heard of the trophy. It was being kept hidden in a shoe box under the bed of Dr. Ottorino Barassi, the Italian vice-president of FIFA, to prevent it from falling into the hands of the Nazi army. In 1966, the Cup was stolen during a public showing of the trophy prior to the World Cup tournament in England. Luckily, it was found a short time later, none the worse for wear, in a trash container by a little dog named Pickles. Four years later, Brazil earned permanent possession of the original trophy by winning its third World Cup title. Unfortunately, the trophy was stolen a second time in 1983 and was never recovered. The Brazilian Football Association had to have a duplicate trophy made.
(I) After the first trophy became the possession of Brazil’s football association, a new World Cup Trophy for FIFA was designed by an Italian artist, Silvio Gazzaniga, in 1974. (II) This trophy cannot be won outright, but remains in the possession of FIFA, and rest assured they are watching it very closely. Today, World Cup winners are awarded a replica of the trophy that is gold-plated, rather than solid gold like the real one. (III) Gazzaniga’s World Cup trophy weighs almost five kilograms. (IV) Its base contains two layers of a semi-precious stone called malachite, and has room for seventeen small plaques bearing the names of the winning teams---enough space to honor all the World Cup champions up to the year 2038. After that, a new trophy will have to be made.

Read the following passage about the cultural diversity and mark the letter A, B, C, or D to indicate the best answer to each of the following questions from 31 to 40.
[I] In today’s globalized world, cultural diversity has become a fundamental aspect of many societies. [II] Many countries are experiencing increasing levels of migration. [III] With the rise of immigration and the blending of traditions, people from various cultural backgrounds are now living side by side in cities across the globe. [IV]
One of the key advantages of cultural diversity is the richness it adds to a society. Different cultures introduce unique perspectives, foods, languages, and traditions, which help people broaden their understanding of the world. In schools and workplaces, cultural diversity fosters creativity and innovation, as individuals from different backgrounds approach problems in novel ways. However, there are also challenges associated with living in culturally diverse communities. Misunderstandings and communication barriers can arise when people are unfamiliar with each other’s customs and values. To address these issues, societies must encourage cultural sensitivity and create opportunities for cross-cultural exchange.
Governments and institutions around the world are beginning to implement policies that promote inclusion and respect for cultural differences. By celebrating diversity through events, education, and media representation, communities can create environments where people feel valued regardless of their background. Ultimately, embracing cultural diversity helps to build more peaceful and harmonious societies.

Read the following passage about the impact of social media on mental health and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the best answer to each of the following questions
[I] In recent years, social media platforms have become a central part of daily life, offering users countless ways to connect, share, and communicate. [II] While these platforms offer many advantages, experts have noted rising concerns about their effects on mental health, particularly among young people (Smith & Anderson, 2018). [III] Studies reveal that excessive social media use can contribute to feelings of anxiety, depression, and loneliness, despite its intention to promote connection and social interaction (Twenge & Campbell, 2019). [IV]
A primary reason for these mental health concerns is the tendency for social media users to compare themselves to others. Platforms like Instagram and Facebook often highlight idealized lifestyles, leading users to feel inadequate about their own lives. Additionally, the constant notifications and messages contribute to a "fear of missing out," or FOMO, which keeps individuals in a cycle of checking their phones, often reducing the quality of sleep and overall well-being.
There is also a growing body of research suggesting a link between social media use and decreased attention spans. When users frequently switch between apps and notifications, their ability to focus for extended periods may diminish (Rosen, 2019). This shift in attention can interfere with productivity, especially in academic and professional settings, where sustained focus is essential.
Addressing these challenges requires a multi-faceted approach. Some mental health professionals suggest limiting screen time and setting boundaries, such as "device-free" hours before bedtime. Others recommend engaging in offline activities, like reading or exercising, to reduce dependence on social media and build healthier habits. According to psychologists, such strategies can bu mental resilience and allow for more meaningful, balanced relationships (Robinson & Smith, 2020).
The phrase "fear of missing out" in paragraph 2 could be best replaced by ____.
